𝑨 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒘𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒏 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒘𝒊𝒔𝒉

➟ It can be a simple plan, and a 𝐒𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐄𝐑 Plan

Here are the elements of a SMARTER plan.

1. 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 - 𝐈𝐭 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫. Know your WHAT. Know what you want to achieve.

I have spoken with many career professionals who do not know what job they are looking for.

They have many skills, but do not know how to repurpose and focus, especially in a career transition.

They do not know their what and neither do they know their why.

Everyone says 'Know Your Why.' They quote Simon Sinek who says "Start with Why."

I believe that '𝒃𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝑾𝑯𝒀, 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝑾𝑯𝑨𝑻❗'

Ask yourself, 'What Career I am trying to build, what job am I looking for?'

2. 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 - Put realistic numbers around it. How much do you want to earn?

3. 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 / 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 - Is it achievable or is it too ambitious given the time frame and resources. If it is unachievable, it may cost you more anxiety.

4. 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 - Not a 'Pie in the Sky.' If you are a Project Coordinator, you cannot be applying to be a software developer (SD) if you do not have SD skills. ( That's exaggerated, but you get the picture).

5. 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 - Put dates around it - stat and end dates on achieving the goal.

6. 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - Many people plan but do not execute. '𝑨 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒆𝒙𝒆𝒄𝒖𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒂 𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎.'  

7. 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 - Create a System of Reflection. You will need to review the plan throughout the process. Know what to stop doing, keep dong and start doing. Rinse and repeat until you achieve it.
